Catering For Jolly Language School’s 2nd Anniversary Celebration

Written by Eric Pui

Jolly Language School celebrated its 2nd anniversary last month in a rather unique way. The persons (the teachers themselves) who planned the theme, props, foods and the overall presentation of the theme were simply amazing and creative I would say. Similar to last year, food is a big part of the celebration. By food, I meant brilliantly created food art that is. The theme this year is “The Snail and The Whale” so we had to go along this theme when planning the menu. For example, we had the snail sandwiches, whale cupcakes, snail cupcakes and other cute little creatures such as crab croissan’wich, shark jelly and so on.

CST140525_0058Event similar to this one requires months of preparation work. For instance, we may need to order the props from overseas that match with the event theme and the time spend on designing the food, varieties and table setting needs to be considered as well. If you are currently planning for an event, be it a kids birthday party or a mini wedding reception, and would like to have us as your food caterer, please come to our shop and go through the details and criteria with our Chefs. Our contact number can be found on the right hand side column of this blog should you wish to make a call for an appointment.

Red Velvet Cupcake

The hottest selling item in store right now has to be the Red Velvet cupcake. Customer who walk in looking for it usually buy not just one but at least two pieces and these cupcakes are usually sold out by late afternoon. This is the only type of cupcake that we produce more than one batch per day. So, what is red velvet? According to Wikipedia :-

A red velvet cake is a popular cake with a dark red, bright red or red-brown color. It is usually prepared as a layer cake topped with a creamy vanilla icing or most popularly, cream cheese icing. The reddish-brown color of the cake was originally from a reaction of the cocoa powder with an acidic ingredient such as buttermilk; however, red food coloring is often added.

Common ingredients include buttermilk, butter, flour, cocoa, and beetroot or red food coloring. The amount of cocoa used varies in different recipes. Cream cheese frosting is most commonly paired with the cake, as well as the traditional buttercream

Red velvet selling at B$3.00 per piece. You may have it with less cream cheese frosting upon request

A friend who works in a renowned cafe in Australia suggested to put the cupcake in microwave for few seconds before it is served for a better texture. I have yet to try it though but if you share the same thought, do let me know. Below are some of the photos of RV tagged by satisfied customers.

Special Mamon

I love mamon and it is something that I definitely wouldn’t miss out every time I visit the Philippines. Mamon cakes are literally Filipino version of sponge cake or what others call as yellow sponge cake. It is soft and airy, creamy at the top with shredded cheddar cheese and white sugar sprinkle all over. It doesn’t need any filling and it usually comes in individual cupcake size or smaller. Ang Sarap (a tagalog word for “It’s delicious”)

Special Mamon - $1.50 each

Since I am in the topic of the Philippines, let me introduce you a popular place for nice coffee with good ambience cafe in Manila, Cafe Mary Grace. My first impression on this cafe is that they only sell 2 items i.e. ensaymada and cheese rolls and I have tried them both. Once again, Ang Sarap!! To find out more about this cafe, click HERE.
